Latency test
How fast do our servers respond from your connection? The test measures directly in your browser.
Hosting server
Direct connection to our infrastructure, with no intermediaries
–hoston.ch website
Via the Cloudflare network, through which our websites are delivered
–Reference value
A large public service for comparison
–
We measure the time for a small request, after a first connection to warm up. The median of five measurements is shown.
How to read the result
What is latency?
The time it takes for a small request to reach the server and for the response to come back. It determines how quickly a page starts loading.
What values are good?
Under 40 ms is very fast, up to 90 ms is good. Over Wi-Fi or mobile networks, values are usually higher than over a cable.
Why do the values fluctuate?
Your router, other devices on the network and your provider’s load all have an effect. That is why we show the median.
Frequently asked questions
The time until a very small request from your browser is answered. After a first request to establish the connection, we measure five times and show the median and the best result.
Wi-Fi, mobile networks, VPNs or a heavily loaded connection increase latency. For comparison, test over a cable and look at the reference value, which measures a large public service.
No. Latency is only part of it. How fast a page loads also depends on the size of the images, caching and the website’s code.
The test only sends small requests without content to our servers. As with any page view, short-lived server logs are created, as described in the privacy policy.
