Frequently asked questions
Answers to the questions we are asked most often about this service.
For most websites, the free SSL certificate included with every hosting plan is sufficient. A validated certificate is worthwhile if you want to prove your company’s identity, for example for online shops or customer portals.
DV only verifies control over the domain. OV additionally verifies your company in the commercial register. EV is the strictest check, with further evidence about the organisation.
A DV certificate is usually issued within a few minutes. OV and EV certificates generally take a few working days because of the company verification.
Yes. A wildcard certificate for *.your-company.ch protects all first-level subdomains as well as the main domain your-company.ch.
A DV certificate at HostOn costs from CHF 22.90 per year including VAT. OV, EV and Wildcard cost more because the validation is more extensive or more subdomains are covered.
Yes. Paid certificates are issued by an independent certificate authority and can be installed on any server that supports SSL.
