How the migration works

  1. 1

    Send a request

Tell us what should be moved and where it is hosted today. It takes two minutes.

  2. 2

    We plan the move

We get back to you with a concrete proposal: the right plan, the process and a date.

  3. 3

    We copy everything

We transfer files, databases and email to your new account. You can test everything beforehand.

  4. 4

    Switch over

Only once everything is working do we change the DNS records. No downtime, no lost emails.

What you can rely on

  • No data loss

We check files, databases and mailboxes before and after the migration.

  • No downtime

Your website stays online with your current provider until everything is ready.

  • Test before the switchover

You check the website on the new server before the domain is switched.

  • Your old hosting stays untouched

We only read – nothing is changed or deleted in your current account.

Frequently asked questions

Answers to the questions we are asked most often about this service.

The migration is free of charge for web hosting and WordPress plans. You only pay for the plan you choose. You can also transfer .ch and .li domains free of charge; for other extensions, the stated transfer price applies, which usually extends the term by one year.

No. We first copy everything to your new account, you can test the website, and only then are the DNS records changed. During the switchover, your website and email remain reachable.

No. We transfer existing messages via IMAP. After the switchover, we synchronise newly received emails once more so that nothing is missing.

Initially just the domain and your current provider. We only ask for login details for the old account when needed, and only via our ticket system – never via a form or unencrypted email.

A typical website with email is migrated within one to three working days. We agree the exact date with you so that the switchover happens at a quiet time.

Yes, but only once everything is running at HostOn. We recommend cancelling the old hosting only after the switchover and after checking all email mailboxes.

Yes. Enter all domains in the form or describe the scope in the message. We draw up a migration plan and move the websites one after another or together.

No. You give us the domain and your current provider, and we take care of the rest. If necessary, we explain step by step where to find login details or the auth code for the domain.

Yes. The domain remains yours: you either transfer it to HostOn with the auth code, or leave it with your current provider and only change the DNS records.
